Thanks for your interest in purchasing a 2024 CSA share. Keep in mind that your share is not officially reserved for you until we receive a deposit. This farm is a partnership between Weavers Way Co-op, Food Moxie, Saul High School of Agriculture and Philadelphia Parks and Recreation.

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It's a method of food distribution that directly links farmers and local community members, letting both share in the natural risks and rewards of farming. We use organic practices on our farms, however we are not certified organic.

But we are more than just a CSA -- we grow food for the community while also providing educational opportunities for Saul High School students. Located on the campus of the W.B. Saul High School for Agricultural Sciences, the farm is managed by Weavers Way staff in collaboration with Saul students and teachers. Food Moxie is a non profit offshoot of Weavers Way. At Henry Got Crops, FOOD MOXIE supports experiential education in scratch cooking with whole foods, seasonal and healthy eating and small-scale sustainable agriculture production and community food security. This CSA is also unique in that all your vegetables are grown at our two farms (The Mort Brooks Memorial Farm at the Awbury Arboretum and the Henry Got Crops Farm at Saul High School). We do not buy any vegetables from other farms. By buying a share in this farm, you are supporting agricultural education while sharing the risks and benefits of small-scale, local agriculture.

Thanks for your interest in purchasing a 2024 You-Pick Subscription. Keep in mind that your subscription is not officially reserved for you until we receive your payment. You-Pick Subscriptions are $288, for 24 weeks, or $192 for 12 weeks. See below for more information about discounts and staggered payments.

Do you want to sign up for the You-Pick Flowers and Herbs Subscription?

Small and large CSA shares (listed further below) ALREADY include full access to the you-pick section via a pay what you can system. Only check this box if you DON'T want to purchase a regular small or large CSA share and instead ONLY want access to the you-pick area. If you choose this option you will NOT pick up pre-harvested vegetables but you will have full access to the you-pick section. The You-Pick Subscription allows access to the you-pick section which is primarily planted in herbs and flowers and a small variety of vegetables such as cherry tomatoes, hot peppers, scallions, lettuces, and radishes.
The cost of this option is $288 for 24 weeks, or $192 for 12 weeks.

Choose one of the options below:

You-Pick subscribers can come to the farm to harvest starting the week of May 20th on days the market is open; Tuesdays and Fridays from 8am - 7pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 9am - 3pm. Unlike our regular CSA share you don’t have to stick to the same day week to week but we ask that you only harvest once a week. We request that subscribers stick to these listed times to ensure that there are farm staff present.

We rely on the honor system to ensure that everyone picks the amount set in our newsletter or on the blackboard at the farm. We are working to expand plantings to ensure there are enough vegetables for everyone.

If you choose this option you will not pick up pre-harvested vegetables but you will have full access to the you-pick section.

What does the You-Pick Subscription offer? It includes some vegetables, specifically peas, beans, hot & mild peppers, tomatillos, okra, ground cherries and cherry tomatoes. Share Size

Shares come in two sizes, small and large. A small share generally consists of 5-6 units of vegetables and is recommended for two people. A large share consists of the same vegetables as a small share but is twice as large, consisting of 10-12 units, and is recommended for four people. A unit is similar to what you would typically buy at a grocery store. For instance one unit could be a bunch of carrots or a head of lettuce.
As part of both the large and small share, you will have access to our You-Pick section. This area of the farm is open to harvesting by all CSA shareholders. What is available on any given week will be listed on a chalkboard with amounts given per item, and in the weekly newsletter.

Discounts

5% Working Discount:
Volunteer 4 hours for a small share, and 6 hours for a large share and earn 5% off on the price of your CSA. Buying a CSA share and being a Weavers Way Co-Op member are separate but related. Both memberships offer a working discount, which is a 5% discount in exchange for working. These hours can be one and the same, meaning if you are a working CSA shareholder, and a working Co-op member, you can volunteer at the farm and earn credit toward your discount for both the CSA and at the store. For more information about working on the farm, or becoming a member of the co-op, please email member@weaversway.coop.

Discounts

We are seeking "Working Share Extraordinaire" volunteers on our farms!

Working Share Extraordinaires are an integral part of supporting our participatory community farms. We really appreciate the additional help, and it's simply more enjoyable with more people participating! This is a great option if you are looking to get some regular time outdoors doing meaningful work and spending more time with the farm crew and other community members at the farms. We offer a $100 discount in exchange for 2 hours of work every week of the 24 week CSA season (minus two "free weeks" for unexpected conflicts). These types of volunteer shifts usually involve helping maintain the fields, harvesting, or working in our orchard, although other creative options are also available! We prefer if people are able to work the same 2-hour shift every week.

We can sometimes offer additional discounts for the share in exchange for a commitment to volunteering additional hours. Please email aascherio@weaversway.coop if you are interested in this possibility.

Donate to Food Moxie (Weavers Way Community Programs)

Founded in 2007, Food Moxie is the nonprofit offshoot of Weavers Way Coop. While the Co-op runs the business of the CSA and manages all farm production, Food Moxie uses the farm for experiential learning and farm-related education programs, getting Saul students out of the classroom and into the dirt. Educational activities include curriculum-based and hands-on learning activities, exploration of the farm, and opportunities to taste and cook nutritious foods. The cost of your share offsets the expenses associated with farm operations but does not offset the costs associated with Food Moxie's educational programming.

To support these ongoing educational programs please consider donating to Food Moxie online or learn more here.

Additionally, you can opt into our High Five! program, in which you donate 5% of your pre-discounted share price to Food Moxie.

Staggered Payments

If you need to stretch out your payments, you can make your payments in five monthly installments. A deposit is still necessary to reserve your share. Complete payment must be fulfilled by Sept. 30, 2024.

If you need to stretch out your payments, you can make your payments in five monthly installments of $48 for the full share, or $32 for the half share, each with a $48 or $32 deposit to reserve your sharesubscription. Complete payment must be fulfilled by Sept. 30, 2024.

Discounts for shareholderssubscribers receiving financial assistance

Weavers Way's discount program, Food For All (FFA), makes our farm more affordable to our community. We provide a 15% discount for people enrolled in the FFA program, and lower the deposit to reserve your subscription to $1. Subscribers qualify if they currently receive food stamps (SNAP), Medicaid, TANF - Cash Assistance, WIC, SSDI, SSI or Military Disability. If you don't currently receive any of these benefits, but are still in need of a reduced price, please still check this box and we will follow up with you.

Because this has always been a treasured experience for CSA shareholders we offer this at a pay-what-you-can rate. Your contribution helps make this a sustainable part of our farm and allows it to be available for all shareholders.
Thank you to everyone who contributed last year! Your support helped cover the costs of planting and maintaining the You-Pick area.

Not sure how much to donate?
Here are some things to consider:
When we ran the numbers, we found that on average, shareholders can pick $288 worth of veggies, flowers, and herbs throughout the 24 week season, an average of $12 per week. This calculation is based on wholesale prices, accounting for the labor you all spend doing the picking.
How much is the experience of picking fresh flowers for your home worth to you?
Can you afford to help others have a You-Pick experience?
Here is a snapshot of typical retail prices for local, organic items at a farmers market:

  • flower bouquets: between $12-$24
  • A pint of cherry tomatoes: $4
  • A bunch of herbs: $2-$3
  • A sunflowers: $1 per stem

Option for early enrollment in our *FALL CSA*

We are pleased to announce we are expanding our Fall CSA share program and opening enrollment early in case you already know you want to extend your CSA season and keep receiving our delicious veggies. The Fall CSA runs an additional 6-weeks with weekly pickups (Tuesday or Friday 2-7pm) in November and the first half of December, immediately following the end of the main season CSA. If you don't sign-up now, you will be able to opt in at any other point in the season with a button on your CSA member page and we'll be sure to remind you of this option later in the season.

We also offer a limited number of Work-share Extraordinaire volunteer positions for the Fall share season specific to mornings on harvest days (Monday or Thursday). Since it's generally a much colder/volatile time of year weather wise we completely waive the Fall CSA share price in exchange for 2 hours work/week. As always, we really appreciate the extra help. Check the box below if you are interested in more information!

    Payment

I understand that payment entitles me to a weekly share of fresh, chemical-free produce harvested at the Henry Got Crops farm at Saul High School and the Mort Brooks farm at the Awbury Arboretum (Weavers Way Farms). I understand that I am sharing the risks that come with the growing season (including weather, insects, crop diseases, etc.) with the other shareholders and the farmers. I understand that the size and duration of my share is dependent on these variables. It is my responsibility to pick up my share on the day and time specified. I understand that my payment is non-refundable. I agree that if I do not fulfill my work commitment by the end of the 2024 CSA season, I will forfeit my discount and pay the remaining balance on my share to cover necessary labor costs.
