Get Ready for for the Great Backyard Bird Count

Sunday, January 26, 2020 - 2:00pm to 4:00pm

The Great Backyard Bird Count is an international, free, fun, and easy four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages to create a real-time snapshot of bird populations. 2020 is the event's 23rd year, and the Count runs Feb. 14- 17. Participants are asked to count birds for as little as 15 minutes (or as long as they wish) on one or more days of the four-day event and report their sightings online at gbbc.birdcount.org. Anyone can take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count, from beginning bird watchers to experts, and you can participate from your backyard or anywhere in the world.

In advance of this year's Great Count, you and your family can get prepped to maximize your contribution. Bring the whole family over to the historic Cope House at the Awbury Arboretum for educational bird activities, an introduction to the popular and easy to use “eBird” app, and a hike to practice observing, identifying, and recording birds. Light refreshments will be served. You'll be good and ready for the upcoming Count, wherever you are!
