Committees: Fast Track to Impact

Weavers Way provides many ways for members to have an impact on how their co-op is run. Interactions with staff people, writing in the suggestion book, and voting at membership meetings are all great ways to have a say in what’s happening at your co-op. But members who really want to get involved in the decision-making process should consider  running for the board of directors or sitting on one of the Co-op’s committees. Here is a list of Weavers Way’s committee’s and a brief description of each.

Farm Committee
  • Devoted to growing all sorts of produce that is sold in the store during harvesting season. During the planting season, local schools come to learn about planting. For more on the farm, click here.

Education Committee

  • Assists in producing and publishing the Shuttle. Develops a continuing education program related to the Co-op’s purpose and operations. Sets up the workshops offered by Co-op members.

Environment Committee

  • Researches environmental concerns and informs the Co-op and its members about current issues, manages monthly recycling program, monitors store related environmental concerns and makes recommendations.
Finance Committee
  • Advises the Board and Staff about budgetary issues, works with the Board and Staff to create yearly Co-op budget.

Leadership Committee

  • Pursues and encourages members to serve on the Committees and Board of Directors, manages all aspects of the election, develops leadership training program.
Membership Committee
  • Instructs new members as to the philosophy and procedures of the Co-op at the Orientation meetings, tracks membership trends, advises Board on membership issues, works with Membership Coordinator Robin Cannicle.
Merchandising Committee
  • Makes product recommendations to the staff and Board, researches new products, advises staff on merchandising programs and product display.
Operations Committee
  • Advises management team on issues and problems arising from the daily operation of the store including personnel policy questions, reviews proposals on equipment purchases.

Outreach/Diversity Committee

  • Devoted to ensuring that the co-op's membership reflects the diversity of the community we're in. Develops outreach efforts, looks for opportunities to collaborate with other neighbor organizations, and works with the board, staff and other committees to achieve and maintain diversity within the store.

Education Committee meets every other month. Operations, Merchandising, Farm and Leadership
Committees meet as needed. All meeting schedules are subject to change. Committee meetings are
held at 610 or 555 Carpenter Lane or at members’ homes. Board meetings are held at 555. For more
