Tips and Tricks for Shopping in the Bulk Department at Weavers Way Co-op

Tuesday, October 5, 2021 - 6:30pm to 7:30pm

Lynn Mather, a long time Co-op member, will share and show tips and tricks she has developed for shopping in the bulk departments at Weavers Way Co-op.

In this free virtual workshop, Lynn will show participants how to:

  • Choose, clean, and store bags, containers and jars at home so they are ready-to-go.
  • Identify which containers will best suit your staple bulk foods, e.g., rolled oats in double plastic bags.
  • Label these carriers for long-term use for the food, using Tares and PLU#s.
  • Save time by creating a digital list on your cell phone that includes staples plus other bulk foods.
  • Properly dispense from bulk bins so as to reduce risk of spillage.
  • Properly transport containers home.

This workshop will meet on Tuesday 10/5 from 6:30-7:30pm over Zoom.

>>FREE. Please register here.

About the Instructor - In joining Weavers Way in its infancy, Lynn Mather was drawn to the sustainability values as much as by the Cooperative model. Thrilled when the Bulk Departments were introduced, she finds satisfaction in simplifying her life and reducing waste and costs by making most of her food purchases in Produce and Bulk. A coop member since 1974 and member of its original Environment Committee, Lynn M delights in bulk-buying and in saying “no” to new bags and containers. She believes she already has enough plastic bags and containers to last her lifetime, and treats those acquired unwittingly in the past as relics to be used and re-used for bulk buying and take-out until they expire!

Weavers Way Workshops are a means of knowledge and skill-sharing among Co-op members, and include presentations, discussions, how-to's, book studies and support groups that are typically free and open to everyone. Views and opinions expressed by any workshop facilitator are not representative of the Co-op. The Co-op is the facilitator and not responsible for views expressed by its presenters.
