The Year of the G.O.A.T.
by Karen Krivit, Director of Philly Goat Project
Each year the Philly Goat Project—our country’s first and only urban goat-centered non-profit dedicated to education, wellness, and community—creates a one-of-a-kind calendar in partnership with their 13 goats! Every calendar purchase helps support the care and management of the goats and keeps the organization’s free programs thriving right here in our community!
2027’s calendar is extra special because of Weavers Way member Jessica Kourkounis, who generously donated her time and talent as the project’s photographer and artistic director.
The 2027 calendar features 12 different female-identified artists who created an installation where the goats live at the Farm at Awbury Arboretum. Each artist’s work reflected their month and featured a photo session with a goat modeling on their set… not an easy act!
Weavers Way member, artist, and poet Angel Hogan’s “Poetry Kitchen” is featured in the month of November and also on the back cover, which shows when the goats were allowed to “devour the set” after the photo session ended. Angel’s installation also includes flowers and produce donated by Weavers Way. Yum!
All LeBron James jokes aside, 2027’s Chinese New Year does in fact celebrate the goat, as seen in the month of January. In addition, the calendar brings together professional and amateur artists whose diverse perspectives and lived experiences mirror the breadth and scope of Philly Goat Project’s programming, from Grief Walks to their All Abilities RAMble and Neighborhood Community Garden; everyone has a place in the herd! Kourkounis’ inspiration brought the calendar collaborations even further by fostering a relationship with the Resource Exchange, our city’s very own materials and supplies nonprofit recycling store that partnered with featured artists to supply materials. Now that’s sustainable!
Weavers Way and Philly Goat Project love sustainability, and readers should keep an eye out for the PGP Christmas TreeCycling events during the month of January!
This year’s calendar is only $15 and can be purchased at any Weavers Way store as well as on the phillygoatproject.org website and at the Philly Goat Project’s barn any day of the week from 8 to 11 a.m. any day. The 2027 calendars make wonderful gifts, are easy to mail to out-of-towners or slide into a suitcase, and they’re always a great way to support your neighborhood goats this year!
