A ‘Bountiful Harvest’ Set for Our Germantown Store
After much input from Co-op members and the community, artist Eurhi Jones has settled on a design for the mural that will be installed on the Morris Street side of Weavers Way Germantown next spring.
“Weaving a Bountiful Harvest” is the title for the final version of the mural, which celebrates the natural abundance and seasonal rhythms of the Wissahickon landscape. The design highlights the interconnected processes that sustain local food and community life. Lush imagery of the “three sisters” crops — corn, beans and squash, appears alongside pollinators and native, flowing organic plants that evoke growth, renewal and interdependence. A central loom, modeled after the one found in the basement of the Germantown store, symbolizes how soil, seeds, seasons and people are woven together. The mural also includes an homage to poet and neighbor Sonia Sanchez, honoring her presence and legacy within the community.
Thank you to all the members who sent feedback, insight and ideas for the mural. Installation and the unveiling will happen in late April or early May, and cooperator shifts to help paint are scheduled for January.
