Check it Out! (Co-op Month Edition)
Breaking news: By the time you read this, our line of frozen pastas, made for us by Sorrentino Pasta and Provisions of Ambler, should be at your favorite Co-op location. They include:
- Classic Potato Gnocchi ($5.99)
- Lemon Zest Ravioli ($8.99)
- Cacio e Pepe Ravioli ($8.99)
All the varieties come in 12-ounce packages. New filled pasta selections are always exciting, so I’ll be picking some up real soon. If you try them and want to share your thoughts, email our retail team: retail@weaversway.coop.
In other news, for this year’s celebration of Co-op Month, our aforementioned retail team more than doubled the number of products from co-ops that will be discounted 10% through Nov. 4. Here’s this year’s Co-op Month lineup:
- Equal Exchange: All products except avocados; their bananas are 20 cents off a pound (regularly $1.19).
- Frontier: They were the first major herb and spice distributor to recognize and actively promote the value of organics, formed in 1976.
- Beemster: This farmer-owned, cooperative cheesemaker was founded in 1901.
- Kerrygold: Ornua, the dairy cooperative that markets and sells Kerrygold and other consumer brands, exports to 110 countries worldwide and is Ireland’s largest exporter of dairy products.
- Blue Diamond: A co-op of more than 3,000 almond growers. All 4.25-ounce and 7.7-ounce boxes of their Nut Thins are discounted 10% through the beginning of November.
- Ocean Spray: The cranberry powerhouse, made up of 700 family farmers, has been a co-op since 1930.
- Simply Organic:. Another member of the Frontier Co-op family; they produce seasoning mixes, packets, extracts and flavors.
- Sunmaid Raisins: The California Associated Raisin Co. of the San Joaquin Valley began as a co-op of raisin growers in 1912.
- Welch’s: The National Grape Cooperative Association, headquartered in Waltham, MA, was formed in 1956. But the group of family farmers, which originally pooled their resources and now numbers 600, has been in existence since 1869.
- Real Pickles: This Greenfield, MA-based worker cooperative has been jarring organic fermented veggies since 2001.
- Aura Cacia: This maker of pure essential oils is part of Frontier Co-op. They’re now based in Urbana, IA.
- Alaffia: The Washington state-based hair and skin care company was formed as a shea butter cooperative in 2003. They continue to grow their cooperative family and use their earnings to fund projects on maternal care, education, empowering women and more in West Africa.
- Maggie’s Organics: The Dexter, MI apparel company began in 1992 and became employee-owned in 2023.
- Andes Gifts: This retailer of knitted hats, gloves and scarves works to bring sustainable employment opportunities to artisans living in rural communities throughout Peru and Bolivia.
On the fresh side, Sunny Harvest Co-op of Kirkwood and Lancaster Farm Fresh Co-op have marked down some of their veggies to celebrate Co-op Month, including winter squash, organic romaine lettuce and organic curly kale. In addition, if you’d like a bouquet to grace your fall table, Sunny Harvest’s are $3 off (regularly $12.99 each).
