Weavers Way’s Board of Directors will welcome three new representatives following the results of the Co-op’s Board elections at its Spring General Membership Meeting on May 3.

Cedric Hardy (1,157), Melissa Easy (962) and Ariel Baumet (721) were the top three vote getters in this year’s race, out of a field of six candidates. They will be officially installed at next month’s board meeting.

The GMM, which featured Congresswoman Madeleine Dean as guest speaker, took place at the Ambler Borough Hall and was attended by about 150 Co-op members. Dean’s presentation was preceded by one from Weavers Way General Manager Jon Roesser, who gave an overview of the Co-op’s financial performance through the third quarter of FY2025 and offered insight into recent trends in the grocery industry.

Roesser said that current economic conditions are trending toward the negative, but that the Co-op is well positioned to weather any downturn that may come about. However, looming tariffs and the price increases likely to come with them have increased the degree of uncertainty on the horizon.

Prior to the formal meeting, attendees enjoyed a meal of meat and vegan hotdogs, green and Portuguese grain salads, apples, cookies and chips. Several members entertained the crowd with live instrumental music.

Dean went through the various steep cuts to government agencies and programs, including SNAP, Medicaid and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, proposed in President Trump’s budget. She assured the audience that she intends to push back on a “cruel” and “lawless” administration that “embraces bigotry.”

“I say that not as a Democrat; I say it as a citizen,” she said. “This is not about Democrats and Republicans. It’s about an administration that doesn’t give a damn about the little guy, doesn’t care about the vulnerable, the hungry, the poor.”

Dean also took questions from the audience, which also focused on the current political climate in Washington. Topics included advice on the most effective ways for constituents to make themselves heard, how Congress can regain its status as an equal branch of government and whether impeaching Trump a third time would be effective.
