Workshop: Intro to Active Hope with Lynne Iser & Mordechai Leibling
Joanna Macy Ph.D., is a scholar of Buddhism, systems thinking and deep ecology. A respected voice in movements for peace, justice, and ecology, she interweaves her scholarship with learning from five decades of activism. As the root teacher of the Work That Reconnects, she has created a ground-breaking theoretical framework for personal and social change, as well as a powerful workshop methodology for its application.
This workshop, an Intro to Active Hope and the Work of Joanna Macy, is being offered as a series of three sessions, led by lifelong scholars, activists and Weavers Way Co-op members Lynne Iser and Mordechai Leibllng, whose own work has been inspired by the 84-year old Macy, author, teacher and visionary. The first session opens with the screening of a 26-minute documentary video, "Joanna Macy & The Great Turning," followed by a discussion of her teachings and the experiential exercises that are the foundation of her work.
Session 3, on October 13, continues to delve into the book Active Hope, written by J. Macy and Chris Johnstone, using experiential exercises to more fully explore Joanna Macy's "Work that Reconnects." Active Hope is about finding, and offering, our best responses to the crisis of sustainability unfolding in our world. It offers tools to help us face the mess we’re in and participate in a collective transition -- The Great Turning-- to a life-sustaining society. At the heart of this book is the idea that "active hope" is something we do rather than possess. It is a means for clarifying what it is we hope for, and empowering its unfolding.
All three sessions are Free. Click HERE to register for September 29.
