Before You Go: What you Should Know about Planning a Funeral

Wednesday, April 6, 2022 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm
What you should know about planning a funeral? Do you know where to begin? What are your options? Our panel of guests will help you.

Our own demise is not a topic we generally like to talk about, but here's your opportunity to have a "death-positive" conversation with three experts in death care. We will talk about what pre-planning is, how you would go about making a plan for yourself or a loved one, and how to be a good consumer of death-care services. This will be a panel discussion with three funeral service professionals, so come with your questions!

Please register here. A zoom link will be emailed to you prior to the event. Thank you for your interest!

About the Panelists:

Patricia Quigley became a licensed funeral director in early 2013, and became supervisor of West Laurel Hill Funeral Home in 2020. She lives in the East Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia with her wife of 33 years, and they have two adult children. Pat is former treasurer of Congregation Mishkan Shalom, a member of the Reconstructionist Chevra Kadisha (Jewish Burial Society), and committee woman and treasurer in the 1st Division of the 9th Ward of Northwest Philadelphia.

Isabel Knight is a board member of the Funeral Consumers' Alliance of Pennsylvania, a volunteer-run organization that is not associated with the funeral industry. FCAP provides objective support, education, and advocacy to funeral consumers, as well as tools to empower consumers to make informed, thoughtful decisions about funeral and memorial arrangements before they are needed. She also is the Vice President of the National Home Funeral Alliance, a nonprofit that educates families and communities on how to care for their own loved ones after death. She is a home funeral guide and a death doula.

Josh Bloom works in the field of community-based economic development and is also a licensed funeral director. (He may be the only urban planner who is also a funeral director.) Josh's interest in death care is based in deep empathy for those who have experienced loss, and a desire to expand options for sustainable funeral practices and make them more accessible.
